Struggling Detroit Residents Offered Free Divorces

DETROIT (WWJ) - Do you live in Detroit and want to get a divorce but just don't have the money? You might be in luck.

Niche dating website SugarDaddie.com is offering to cover the costs of a divorce for three couples in Detroit.

Steve Pasernak, the website's CEO, said he dreamed up the idea after hearing so many people complain about the expense of divorce in the greater Detroit area, which averages about $282 per hour.

"I thought it would be a creative way to get the word out about our site, and to help people gain real independence in their lives," he said in a statement.

To be considered, individuals must submit their reasons for wanting a divorce in-writing no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 31. The company will review all submissions and select the best three finalists to receive a complementary uncontested divorce package.

Pasernak said the package includes state-specific divorce documents for both spouses, a state-specific marital settlement agreement, and a parenting plan for specifying custody arrangements and visitation schedules.
