Metro Detroit 12-Year-Old Is Vine Video Sensation

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - While other kids were watching cartoons, a 12-year-old West Bloomfield 7th grader spent her summer vacation fashioning herself into a social media sensation.

Lillian Powers' six-second video posts on the social media website "Vine" have gone viral.

Since June, Lilli has posted nearly 100 video clips. Now, she has more than 120,000 followers worldwide.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne spoke with Lilli about her methods.

"Frankly, I never have ideas. Sometimes I do, and they just come to me when the time's right," Lilli said.

"Somehow I just started to be goofy and I said, 'When I put my hair like this I like to pretend I'm a unicorn and I'm swimming in magic land' — and everyone loved it," she said. "I dunno why!"

In another popular clip Lilli's cat licks her, and she licks it back.

Gawker picked up Lilli's story, calling her a "vine genius" and pointing to her mature sense of satire.

"I didn't even know I was getting that attention until somebody commented on my Vine, 'Good job getting on Gawker." I'm like, 'What is Gawker?'

"So, I go online and search 'Lillian Powers Gawker.' I'm like, 'Oh my gosh I've got to show mom'," she said.

Since then, Lilly and her family have been approached by a TV production company.
