Police In Mt. Clemens Search For Hit-And-Run Driver

MT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Police in Macomb County are searching for a man with a "fuzzy" beard who drove away after striking a pedestrian with his car.

The sheriff's office said the accident happened around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 near Dickinson and Third streets in Mt. Clemens.

Witness statements indicate that the 53-year-old Mt. Clemens woman was trying to walk across Dickinson Street when she was struck by a dark-colored sedan. Police said the woman rolled up onto the hood of the vehicle and then rolled off into the street.

After the accident, the driver stopped briefly and got out of his vehicle. Police said the man was apparently aware that he had struck the woman, and even told an eyewitness that he was going to go and "call 911." The witness told police the man then got back into his car and fled the scene northeast on Gibbs Street.

The man is described as a white male with a "fuzzy" beard, in his late 20's or early 30's. At the time, he was wearing a black shirt, black shorts and black shoes.

The suspect vehicle is described as a burgundy or black sedan, possibly a 2009-2010 model year. Police said the car should have some front-end damage.

The woman suffered head and leg injuries in the crash and remains in stable condition at an area hospital.

Anyone who may have information on the crash or the suspect is asked to contact the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at 586-307-9358.
