4 Magazine Solicitors Arrested For Carjacking

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - Four men who spent the past two months hawking magazine subscriptions in the Detroit area have been arrested in connection with the carjacking of a man who refused to give them a ride.

The Detroit Free Press reports Thursday that the victim told police he was pulled from his vehicle late Sunday night outside a Bloomfield Township grocery.

The suspects -- from Chicago, Tennessee, Louisiana and Alabama -- earlier had been charged in Bloomfield Hills with soliciting without a license and released a half-hour before the carjacking.

Two of the men were arrested Monday in Detroit. They led police to the other two suspects who police say were planning to flee to Missouri.

Police say the group also may be responsible for an armed robbery and stabbing in Detroit.

Anyone with information about carjackings, car break-ins, auto thefts or chop shops in Michigan are urged to report it day or night to H.E.A.T.'s 24/7 confidential tip-reward line, 1-800-242-HEAT or online at www.miheat.org.
