Miley Cyrus: 'Detroit's Where I Felt Like I Really Grew Up'

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Miley Cyrus says Detroit changed her life.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the pop singer — who recently made headlines with her unusual awards show act and naked wrecking ball swing  — said her transformation from Disney sweetheart to who she is today kicked into high gear three years ago, when she came to Detroit to shoot the movie "LOL."

Cyrus said Detroit is where she "really grew up," where she started going to clubs, and where she got a tattoo without her parents' permission.

"I got it on 8 Mile!" Cyrus told the magazine. "I lied to the guy and told him I was 18. I got a heart on my finger and wore a Band-Aid for two months so my mom wouldn't find out."

Detroit is also where Cyrus says she bonded with co-star, Demi Moore, whose rocky relationship with Ashton Kutcher was becoming a major tabloid story.

"That was dope, because I think we needed each other at that point," Miley said. "We both needed to get out of L.A."

But it was last summer, in Philadelphia, the young star said, where she adopted her latest style.
