CAR Offers Breakfast Briefing On Connected, Automated Vehicles: The Center for Automotive Research will offer a breakfast briefing on connected and automated vehicles on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Fairlane Center North Building, 19000 Hubbard Drive, Dearborn. Vehicle communications and connectivity continue to evolve quickly with different products and service models emerging from different sectors. Meanwhile, automated and self-driving vehicles also have quickly evolved from science fiction to a real possibility within a decade or so. This CAR Breakfast Briefing offers insights into several dimensions of connected and automated vehicle technologies, with an emphasis on mobility and safety. The moderator will be Richard Wallace, director of transportation systems analysis at CAR. Panelists are Jan-Maarten de Vries, vice president of automotive product management and marketing at TomTom; David Pratt, general manager for usage based insurance at Progressive; Danny Shapiro, director of the automotive business unit at Nvidia; and Patricia Watkins, director of global client management at Sprint Velocity. Fisher Unitech Sets Design Excellence Forum Series: Troy-based Fisher/Unitech, a reseller of SolidWorks 3D design software and Stratasys 3D printers, has scheduled a series of 11 Design Excellence Forums at cities throughout the Midwest and Northeast. The Design Excellence Forum will offer several presentations showing how to use today’s most innovative technologies to achieve excellence in design and manufacturing. The Forum offers sessions on mechanical CAD, electrical design, 3D printing, CAM, data management, and includes free training on SolidWorks 2014. This roadshow will begin on Oct. 2 in Kansas City, Kan. and travel throughout the Midwest and East Coast during the month of October.
