Dozens Come Out For Assistance To Sign Up For Insurance Under New Affordable Care Act

DETROIT (WWJ) - Hours after taking effect, dozens of uninsured folks came out to sign up for health insurance under the new federal law.

James Pickens of Detroit come out to the west side church and told WWJ's Stephanie Davis why he's buying coverage.

"I don't have health insurance, I don't have a pension and I live on social security," said Pickens. "So it would be nice to have health insurance."

The National Action Network hosted the day-long event to provide information and to enroll people into a health care plan.

Officials say they could not access the federal government's website so instead they had people fill-out applications to mail in.
