GAYLORD, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say 911 emergency phone service has been restored in several rural counties in Michigan's northeastern Lower Peninsula following an outage.

The outage Wednesday afternoon affected at least Alpena, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle and Roscommon counties. TV stations WPBN-WTOM and WWTV-WWUP report service was restored as of late Wednesday night. The outage was in areas with the 989 area code.

Officials have said the apparent cause was a fiber line was cut between Roscommon and Saginaw.
