Ray Township Man Found Dead In Home Following Standoff

RAY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Macomb County man has been found dead dead following a police standoff that began Monday morning.

Michigan Lieutenant Mike Shaw said the situation unfolded at around 11 a.m. following a 911 call from a Ray Township woman about her husband.

That's then police rushed to the scene, surrounding the home on 29 Mile Road.

"They made contact with his wife who had said that he had a handgun inside of the house and had made some gestures that he was going to harm himself," Shaw told WWJ's Beth Fisher. "We evacuated the wife and set up a perimeter around the house."

Shaw said they spent hours trying to get a hold of the man and talk him outside safely.

Eventually, officers entered the home to find him dead.

Police had closed 29 Mile Road west of Romeo Plank at Schoenherr Road during the standoff, but the road has been reopened.

Shaw said they will interview the wife and an autopsy will be conducted as an investigation continues.

The man's name was not immediately released.
