Oakland County Deputies Arrest Murder Suspect Wanted In California

PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - A murder suspect wanted in California is behind bars thanks to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff deputies arrested Charles Leppan Sunday afternoon outside his home on Cherry Street in Brandon Township.

Leppan was wanted in San Bernardino, California for the murder of his ex-wife Jean.

Her body was found in a shallow grave in the desert in March of 2004.

Charles Leppan was a marine and stationed at a base in California when his wife was found. Leppan is in the Oakland County Jail awaiting an extradition hearing.

Leppan and his wife, Jean, lived in Yucca Valley when she disappeared in 2004. Her skeletal remains were found by a man walking his dog.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies questioned Leppan at the time but he was not charged with a crime.
