Scammers Target Those Confused About Obamacare

DETROIT (WWJ) - More scam artists are trying to take advantage of the confusion and bickering over the federal government's new health care website.

Consumer groups are keeping tabs on people who are trying to get a hold of people's money or personal information in Obamacare-related scams.

Others want to steer you away from the competitive marketplace and into one private insurance plan, where you'll miss out on qualifying tax credits offered through the Affordable Care Act.

Don Hazaert, director of Michigan Consumers for Healthcare, describes a situation that happened just last week in Detroit.

"A group out of Florida was holding events in Detroit, essentially — in my interpretation of events — pretending to be with the Obama administration or a navigator in assisting people," Hazaret said.

"in fact," he said, "they were insurance agents out of Florida operating in Detroit."

If you're confused about Obamacare and getting coverage through the federal exchange, you can get free help from a certified navigator through the Enroll Michigan website HERE.
