Automation Alley Unveils Web Based Internship Resource

TROY (WWJ) -- Automation Alley said this week that it is partnering with the intern job placement system Intern in Michigan to provide a free, Web-based resource guide to help businesses find qualified interns and to assist students seeking internship opportunities in the region.

The portal is easily accessible at www.automationalley.com under Talent Development in the Programs & Services drop-down tab. Or, visit http://automationalley.interninmichigan.com.

From either location, businesses can post new internships and search for top talent, while potential interns can use the site to investigate the latest internship opportunities.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 59 percent of Michigan employers have a hard time finding qualified workers. And in 2012, Gov. Rick Snyder reported that there were 77,000 unfilled jobs in the state.

"When the recession hit, many businesses put a hold on their internship programs," said Alysia Green, director of talent development at Automation Alley. "Now, companies see the opportunity to grow their workforce with young, skilled talent but don't know where to begin. Through the Intern in Michigan portal, employers no longer have to sort through hundreds of resumes to find the right person for the job. This resource is designed to reduce the time and energy it takes to find qualified candidates, and it also allows businesses to 'try out' a future employee to see if they fit into the company's corporate culture."

The portal, developed by Detroit-based Digerati, allows internship candidates to upload a profile and track their progress while researching new careers. What makes Intern in Michigan special is that the portal incorporates a revolutionary matching algorithm that uses targeted profile data gathered from both students and employers.

Internship candidates are matched with organizations based on their individual interests and unique skill sets. Meanwhile, employers are matched with the interns who are best suited to their organization.

Since its founding in 1999, Automation Alley has expanded to include nearly 1,000 businesses, educational institutions and government entities from the city of Detroit and the surrounding eight-county region. Automation Alley promotes regional prosperity through entrepreneurial and exporting assistance, workforce development and technology acceleration.

Intern in Michigan connects thousands of employers to the largest pool of talent in the state. Unlike other online job sites, it's free for both employers and students. In addition, it uses matching algorithms to instantly connect both parties to internship opportunities based on skills, interests and requirements. Matching based on these factors ensures that candidates are well-suited for their opportunities. So with Intern in Michigan, employers don't need to sort through hundreds of resumes. They are instantly connected to internship candidates who fit their needs and requirements – saving time and money.
