Taco Bell Reverses, Keeps Taco Giveaway For MSU Basketball Fans

EAST LANSING (CBS Detroit/AP) - It's a relief for hungry college students in East Lansing. Free tacos are back on the menu for Michigan State basketball fans this season.

For years, Taco Bell locations in and around the college town gave out a free taco to fans with a ticket stub from a game where the Spartans scored at least 70 points.

That led fans to chant "We want tacos" at the team's home court as the team approached the 70-point threshold.

Taco Bell had ended the promotion this season after, according to Michigan State associate athletic director Paul Schager, sponsorship agreement ran out. Schager said the promotion, in place since 2004, "was a fan-favorite and something very positive and very popular."

Following recent home games, however, all fans apparently weren't aware that the promotion had ended. Long lines of taco-seeking basketball fans formed at Taco Bell locations near campus and flyers were posted to inform Taco Bell customers looking for a free snack.

Then, on Wednesday, the fast food chain announced that its local operator is "grateful for the passionate fans" and will continue the giveaway at 10 locations for the rest of the season.
