Suspected Molotov Cocktails Found Outside Church

PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - Investigators are trying to figure out if a church member attempted to burn down his house of worship after two Molotov cocktails were found near a Pontiac church.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department said the incident involves a church on East Pike Street, but declined to identify the church.

According to investigators, a minister discovered one of the devices near a church door on Sunday. Investigators say the minister tossed the device in the trash and waited almost two hours -- until after church services ended -- to call the sheriff's department.

Authorities found another similar device on the same street as the church, which is being processed for fingerprints.

The minister told investigators a former church member had made threats to burn the church down, and he might be to blame. Police suspect a 39-year old Pontiac man, but haven't made an arrest yet.

An investigation is ongoing.
