Macomb County Man Rams Police Cars In Daring Escape

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Washington Township man is behind bars after authorities say he rammed two police cars in an escape during a traffic stop.

According to Macomb County Sheriff's deputies, two department vehicles were damaged in the incident Thursday night near 27 Mile and Jewell roads in Washington Township.

That's where officials say a deputy spotted and pursued a minivan being driven recklessly.  The deputy attempted to stop the van and the driver sped off in an effort to elude the officer, officials said. The van, driven by 37-year old Richard Loop, entered the Rudgate Mobile Home Park, where it struck two patrol cars, disabling both, and sped off again.

Eventually, officials said, Loop fled the van and ran off on foot.

He was caught hiding in the back bedroom of a mobile home located in the 57000 block of Plymouth, arrested, and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, fleeing an eluding, and driving on a suspended license.

Loop was granted a $150,000 cash/surety bond at an arraignment Friday in 42nd District Court of Romeo.

He remained jailed Monday ahead of a court appearance set for Tuesday.
