Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Westland Barbershop

WESTLAND (WWJ) - Police say a suspected drunk driver was seriously injured when she crashed her vehicle through the front of a barbershop.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday at Jim Jordan's Barber Shop near the corner of Merriman Road and Ann Arbor Trail in Westland.

According to police, an apparent drunk driver lost control of her car, hit a telephone pole and smashed through the barbershop's front window.

Owner Jim Jordan said the interior of his business was in shambles after the wreck.

"It was the seating area. I have a bubble hockey table in there, everything flew back and hit that, and some of the benches are damaged it looks like. But, they didn't hit the barber chairs so I'm glad about that," he said.

Jordan said this is his busiest season, right before the holidays, so crews made quick work boarding up the broken window with plywood. He plans to be open for business as usual on Thursday.

The driver, who was not identified, was transported to a hospital for treatment of what were described as non-life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
