Terrorist Attack In Afghanistan Kills Woman From Metro Detroit

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - A Hamtramck woman is among the victims of a suicide bomb and gun attack at a popular restaurant in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Fifty-nine-year-old Basra Hassan was of Somali descent with U.S. citizenship and was a nutrition specialist for UNICEF.

Hamtramck Mayor Karen Majewski says they offer their sympathies to Hassan's family , friends, and colleagues.

"Obviously, she worked on behalf of all of us to bring some good to the world," said Majewski.

"I'm shocked & saddened as I'm sure the whole city is. Our sympathies and prayers go to the family, to her friends, her neighbors, her colleagues."

Hassan, according to LINKEDIN, received her master's degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Hassan was inside a restaurant when Taliban fighters went in and shot 13 foreigners and eight Afghans to death.
