1 Killed In Accident On I-75 During Morning Commute

MACOMB (WWJ) - Freezing drizzle during the early morning may have led to a string of crashes along a seven mile stretch of eastbound I-94 and Masonic Blvd. in Roseville and along I-75 near Sashabaw.

There were three separate crashes occurring at one location, another accident involved a fatality.

When police arrived at the scene in Roseville they were investigating a single vehicle crash involving a pick-up truck. The pick-up truck was eastbound on I-94 and struck the right median wall. The driver exited his vehicle and was standing next to it. Roseville police were blocking traffic behind the crash to warn upcoming traffic and writing the report.

A second two-vehicle crash occurred behind the patrol car as officers were investigating the first crash.

A third vehicle swerved to avoid the second crash, drove around the patrol car, and struck the pick-up truck from the initial crash pushing the pick-up against the median wall crushing the pick-up driver between his vehicle and the wall.

The 25-year-old male driver was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he is listed in critical condition.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in that investigation.

Authorities report that a fatal crash happened on I-75 and Sashabaw Road and they are still investigating.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement at 6:45 a.m. saying patchy freezing drizzle would impact the morning commute.  The message said light icing may lead to slippery roads, particularly on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses.
