Slick, Slippery Roads After Fresh Layer Of Weekend Snow

DETROIT (WWJ) - With snow last night and this morning, the road crews have been out all over metro Detroit. M-DOT's Diane Cross has advice if you're out driving.

"You have to be very carefully, especially on the bridges, ramps, and overpasses even after they've been plowed or salted, they freeze right back over and you hit those going too fast & that's where we have so many of our accidents."

In Oakland County, they say they've just about used up their winter budget with all of the snow, but they have a good supply of salt.

"As much as we want to blame the weather, very often these accidents are really driver error....people going too fast for the conditions . So if you're heading out today, you've got to plan on extra time to go slow...drive to the weather, which means snow covered roads means slow going."

Road Commission for Oakland County spokesman Craig Bryson says they have about 51 crews out ... crews that really haven't had much of a break this winter.

Bryson says crews will be out as long as needed . He advises taking it slow because he says the salt is working, but some areas are still icy.

"Our crews are working ... ridiculous amounts of overtime . Many of them haven't had a weekend off since before Christmas . To their credit, though, they're all very dedicated about what they're doing . I think they're all sick of snow, but they're, you know, they're out there again this weekend , you know, working very hard," said Bryson.

In Oakland County, they say they've just about used up their winter budget with all of the snow, but they have a good supply of salt.
