Police Await Toxicology Reports In Young Woman's Death

RICHMOND (WWJ/AP) - Authorities are awaiting toxicology results to determine how a 22-year-old St. Clair County woman died.

Police say an autopsy performed Monday on Samantha Ward's body revealed no signs of foul play.

Ward, of Columbus Township, was out Friday night with friends at a tavern in Richmond. At the end of the night, Ward took a different path as the group started to walk to their homes, according to police.

Ward's body was found the next morning, around 9 a.m. Saturday, outside of the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Gratiot Avenue, near 31 Mile and County Line. Police said she wasn't wearing a jacket, gloves or a hat, a startling factor since temperatures early Saturday morning were below zero.

Other factors surrounding Ward's death remain a mystery. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from shops in the area that might provide some clues. Tips are also being sought from the public.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Richmond police at 586-727-7545.
