Detroit Book Store Ranked #2 In The World By Business Insider

DETROIT (WWJ) - It turns out book lovers have one of the world's best book stores right in the Motor City.

The Detroit landmark John K. King Used And Rare Books has been named to Business Insider's "Top 18 Book Stores Every Book Lover Must Visit At Least Once."

"I mean, we never thought we'd see something like this, and we're honored to be listed as number two in the world," said John King. "It was like winning a Tony or an Emmy or something for us."

King says among his one million books are some rare finds.

"We do have books that belonged to like Franklin Delenore Roosevelt that came from his library. We have a first edition Book of Mormon which is extremely rare," King told WWJ's Marie Osborne. "We have the Federalist Papers right now, which is extremely desirable right now for people who like to collect American history."

King said he strives to make his store one anyone would love to visit.

"David Byrne comes in, Jay Leno, Teller of Penn and Teller ... Governor Engler when he was governor used to in come here with his security detail, and my dog never bit him, so I felt good about that. My dog was a Democrat," he joked.

Kind added, however, that his doors are open to everyone.

"We're proud of that; that we serve not just the carriage trade, but we serve even the homeless that come in and get free books from our lobby," King said.
