Hundreds Expected To Attend Job Fair For Veterans In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Veterans: It's time to get your resumes ready -- "Hiring our Heroes" is holding a job fair next weekend.

Several local and national organizations are teaming up to hold a large veterans job fair and welcome home event on Saturday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Detroit VA Healthcare System in Detroit.

Veterans of all eras are welcome to attend, although organizers continue to focus on Veterans who have recently returned from serving.

"We continue to hear that returning combat Veterans are having difficulty with securing employment," Dr. Melva Coleman, Program Coordinator at Detroit VA Healthcare System, said in a statement. "This event will allow Veterans to visit with employers, interview on-site, register for health care and receive medical exams. In addition, we will conduct workshops on everything from resume writing to dressing for an interview."

And don't forget to dress to impress. About 70 employers -- including Art Van, Ford Motor Company, The City of Detroit and Henry Ford Healthcare System -- will be on hand, some planning to conduct on-site interviews.

The hiring fair portion of the program is set to take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the Veteran-focused seminars and workshops taking place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All veterans planning to attend should register online at www.hiringourheroes.org.
