Police Ask Public To Help Identify Woman Killed 35 Years Ago

JACKSON, Mich. (WWJ) - Thirty-five years later it's still a mystery. Michigan State Police in Jackson are again asking for the public's help in identifying the remains of an unknown victim.

The woman dubbed "Jane Doe" was found dead in August of 1978, in a garbage bag dumped on Clear Lake Road near I-94 in Grass Lake, Michigan. Another deceased female victim was also found that day and was identified in 1978 as being from the Detroit area.

Detectives believe the still-unidentified victim is likely from metro Detroit as well.

The Jane Doe is believed to be an African American female who was between the ages of 28 and 40 years old at the time of her death.  She was between 5 feet 3 inches tall and 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed 130 pounds. She wore an auburn, wavy, collar-length wig.

Police on Monday released sketches of the woman.

Anyone who recognizes the victim or who has any information about what happened to her is asked to contact the MSP Jackson Post at 517-780-4580.
