Anytime Fitness: Detroit's Only 24-Hour Gym Now Open

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 24-hour gym in the heart of downtown Detroit is pumped over the amount of business they're already seeing just weeks after opening.

Anytime Fitness on Griswold Street, between Michigan Avenue and Fort Street, opened its doors on the ground floor of the Albert Kahn Security Trust last Monday.

In just two weeks, more than 150 people have signed up for memberships -- many of whom are professionals working in the city, according to Michael Ferlito, the gym's co-founder.

"With all the resurgence down here, people are coming in here who work [downtown]," Ferlito told WWJ's Vickie Thomas. "I mean, there's over 100,000 in Detroit's central business district and midtown alone that work here, working past 6 o'clock, and we're open 24-7."

The 4,800 square foot gym features a variety of cardio and strength equipment, and offers an opportunity for members to exercise and work with personal trainers.

Ferlito said he's honored to be part of the growing movement to revitalize Detroit while offering those who live and work in the city a place to stay healthy and fit.

"There's young, you know, hipster-type people who just want to help and have a social drive to do stuff," he said. "I love it."

Membership at Detroit's Anytime Fitness will set you back $99 for an enrollment fee, plus $39 a month. For more information, visit www.anytimefitness.com.
