Shinola Plans To Open Sister Store: Willys Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A company that makes handcrafted wristwatches in Detroit is opening a sister store this summer.

The new store, called Willys Detroit, will be in the same building that houses Shinola -- at 441 West Canfield, just west of Cass Avenue. It will offer an assortment of fashion, home and apothecary brands.

Slated to open in mid-June, Willys will be anchored by four American brands: Filson, a Seattle manufacturer of unfailing goods for outdoor enthusiasts; Steven Alan, a heritage-inspired clothing line from New York; Clare V, a maker of handbags and accessories crafted in Los Angeles; and Mollusk, a surf wear company based in San Francisco and Venice Beach.

A variety of Detroit and Michigan-based brands will also be featured in the store, including: Abigail Murry, Debbie Carlos, Detroit Rose Candles, Kate Tremel Clay, Kerosene Fragrances, Lost and Found Vintage, Rebecca Grubba and SMPLFD.

Shinola's CEO Steve Bock said the aim of the store is to complement nearby retail businesses and make the area more of a shopping destination.

"Willys Detroit was inspired by the tremendous feedback we received from customers interested in seeing more of the curated products we featured throughout the year at Shinola," Bock said in a statement.

Willys will also evolve each month to feature new brands from across the U.S., with a selection of products that will include a variety of price points.
