DETROIT (WWJ) - A 52-year-old man was detained after he was caught carrying a large knife hidden in his a cane at Detroit City Hall.
Wayne County Sheriff's Lt. Tim Harrs says officers were alerted to a sword-length 15 inch blade when the suspect slid his cane through an x-ray medal detector, Thursday afternoon, at the Coleman A Young Municipal Center.
The man told deputies he received the cane from a friend and didn't know a secret knife was inside. He told investigators he was heading to the Detroit Retirement Board to conduct business, Harris said.
The suspect, who is licensed to carry a concealed weapon, had no outstanding warrants.
He was turned over to Detroit police for a possible concealed weapons violation.
