Study: It's Quality Over Quantity When It Comes To Exercise

DETROIT (WWJ) - A new study emphasizes the importance of quality over quantity to achieve optimal fitness.

New York researchers recruited 36 females and 21 male volunteers between the ages of 35 and 57 who were obese or overweight notes WWJ Health Reporter Sean Lee.

Researchers asked all the volunteers to consume the same amount of protein - 60 grams a day - but put them on different exercise programs for 16 weeks.

The first group was sedentary, the second group performed an intense resistance training program, and the third group followed a multi-dimensional plan that mixed cardio and strength training.

While everyone recorded improvements, the mixed exercise group, lost the most weight and the most fat mass, and gained a greater percentage of lean body mass than the rest of the volunteers.
