Family, Volunteers Search Rouge Park For Missing Kids Of Murdered Detroit Mom

DETROIT (WWJ) - Volunteers have been searching Rouge Park on Detroit's west side for two missing children whose mother was found shot dead in an abandoned home last week.

Brenda Fields, cousin of 27-year-old Alicia Fox, the mother of 6-year-old Kaylah Hunter and 8-month-old Kristian Justice, talked about where they planned to focus on Tuesday.

"Search grids three, four, five, and six — which are supposedly...the high-wood areas, and like the high dumping areas," Fields told WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne. "We've already been here but we're here again, and we're going to continue to search until we find our babies," she said.

Fields was joined by around 60 friends, family and strangers outfitted with rubber gloves and bug spray for Tuesday's search.

Searcher Rob Kempert brought his German Shepard, Damian.

"They were given a tip the children might be found here, and this is the largest park in city," he said. "It's even bigger than Belle Isle, most people don't realize it."

There's been no sign of the kids so far, and Detroit Police Chief James Craig said investigators don't know if they're dead or alive.

Meantime, two men remain in custody in connection with Fox's murder.

Fox's husband 26-year-old Erin Justice — who is Kristian's father — was charged with murder. He's in Atlanta, Georgia fighting extradition. A second Detroit man, 27-year-old Timothy Jones was arraigned last Friday on a charge of accessory after the fact.

Craig said he believes Justice knows what happened to the kids, although he's not talking.

Meantime, Fields said, the family is trying to keep it together.

"We're traumatized; it's unbelievable," Fields said. "You know, you see stuff like in the newspaper and you read stuff like this in the news...you never expect it to be your family. So, we're just staying hopeful, we're praying, and we're doing all we can."
