Anti-Arab Discrimination Effort Coming To Detroit

DETROIT (AP) - A national campaign aimed at challenging persistent discrimination against U.S. Arabs and Muslims is preparing to launch in Detroit.

Several Arab-American, Muslim and civil rights groups will gather Monday in Detroit to discuss the effort called Take on Hate. It follows the campaign's March launch in Washington, D.C., as part of the sixth annual Arab American Advocacy Week.

Organizers say the campaign incorporates public education and provides a platform for people "to speak up and inspire real policy change."

The National Network for Arab American Communities will be joined by several other groups, including the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and Council on American-Islamic Relations.

The Detroit area is one of the nation's largest centers of people who trace their roots to the Middle East.
