Evergreen Road Construction Project Set To Run Through September 2015

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A stretch of Evergreen Road in Southfield is finally getting a much-needed makeover.

The construction project runs about a mile between Civic Center Drive and the north Municipal Campus in Southfield.

The project will begin on Sunday and will be completed by September of 2015.

"The one-mile segment of Evergreen Road, from the existing six and seven lane road, will be converted into a four-lane boulevard including roundabouts at Evergreen and Civic Center Drive, as well as at the North Municipal Campus," said Michael Manion with the city of Southfield.

"The road been in quite a state of disrepair for several years and it's been something that we've been trying to address - certainly doing our best with the maintenance of it. But it really needed a complete re-construction."

There's a lot of work to be done said Manion.  The scope and the size of the project is huge. With most of the road reconstruction being completed this season .

"A major mid-block crossing and plaza that will be constructed between the two round-a-bouts there will be a wide path that will be constructed on the east side of Evergreen; from (I) 696 to Filmore - and that will include benches and decorative landscaping as well as decorative street lighting. The project also is going to incorporate a lot of innovative stormwater features that will improve the water quality in the area."

Manion said the road will not be shut down during the construction and at least one lane will be open during the entire project.
