DNA Clears Man In Prison For Rape, Other Crimes

DETROIT (AP) — A judge has thrown out the convictions of a Detroit-area man who served nearly seven years in prison for rape and other crimes.

Donya Davis' lawyers say DNA tests exclude him and point to another man in a 2006 attack on a woman. He's represented by Cooley Law School's Innocence Project.

Wayne County prosecutors agreed that Davis' convictions should be erased, but another trial still is possible. Judge Ulysses Boykin released the 36-year-old on bond Friday.

Another judge had convicted Davis of carjacking, armed robbery, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and gun crimes. He wouldn't have been eligible for parole until 2022.

His lawyers say the only direct evidence against Davis was from the victim who identified him as the attacker.
