Authorities: Woman Starts Fire At Wal-Mart

THREE RIVERS (AP) — Authorities say a woman burned paper at a Wal-Mart in southwestern Michigan, causing a fire that shut down the store.

WLKM-FM, the Three Rivers Commercial-News and the Kalamazoo Gazette report crews responded early Monday to the store in Three Rivers. No injuries were reported.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Dianna Gee says there was no structural damage, but meat, produce and some shelf items had to be discarded due to water and smoke damage. Authorities say surveillance video shows the woman setting the fire before leaving.

The fire was limited to one aisle in the store, located 70 miles south of Grand Rapids. Damage is estimated at more than $10,000. The store was closed Monday.

Gee says the store is to reopen Wednesday. The pharmacy is open in the meantime.
