FREE Water Taxi Makes Debut On Lake St. Clair's 'Nautical Mile'

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - It's a pub crawl of a different sort.

A water taxi is ferrying barhoppers up and down "The Nautical Mile" -- a stretch of bars and restaurants on Lake St. Clair along Jefferson Avenue, between 9 Mile and 10 Mile roads.

"Every two hours, it will be at each restaurant. So whatever time that is, if it's at Brownie's at 7, it will be back at 9, 11 and 1," Ray Kumars, who owns the service, told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "There's seven stops total that are going to be on a routein schedule, and then other stops are by request only."

Kumars said the best part is that the water taxi, which is the first of its kind on Lake St. Clair, is completely free to passengers.

"We will pick you up, there's a number that you call to reserve a boat for yourself, and we go to every restaurant on the nautical mile," he said.
