Man Takes Own Life After Reportedly Stabbing Victim, Fleeing

WASHTENAW COUNTY (WWJ) -- A stretch of northbound US- 23, near the Washtenaw and Livingston County line, was closed for over two hours following a police chase of a stabbing suspect, who then apparently took his own life on Monday afternoon.

Director Derrick Jackson with the Washtenaw County Sheriff Department said the victim of the stabbing -- which occurred at Mike's Welding and Fabrication in Ypsilanti Township shortly before 4:00 p.m. Monday afternoon -- is expected to survive.

"The suspect pulled out a knife and he stabbed the victim several times," Jackson said. "Northfield Police Department actually made the traffic stop. I don't have much information about what actually transpired at the traffic stop other than the victim had taken his own life."

The unidentified suspect reportedly shot and killed himself inside of his silver Ford Escape, after he was stopped by police.

Jackson said the stabbing victim is expected to survive.  No motive has been given for the attack.
