DETROIT (WWJ) – Drivers on I-75 in Detroit Friday morning got an eyeful of a massive fire burning across the river at a Canadian food processing plant.
“It’s over in Canada, just east of Windsor, there’s a massive fire at a sprawling food production complex called Bonduelle,” WWJ’s Bill Szumanski said, hovering near the scene in Chopper 950. “This has been burning now for quite a few hours, and looks like it’s not going to be stopping any time soon.”READ MORE: Michigan Moves To Fund Mental Health Like Physical Health
Officials say the fire took off around 2 a.m. Friday at the plant in Tecumseh, Ontario. Thick plumes of smoke rising from the fire can be seen from miles away.READ MORE: Michigan Matters: Impacting Health & Well-Being Across Metro Region
Windsor fire officials said the smoke is being blown toward St. Clair Shores.
