By Edward Cardenas

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Members of the Manchester United soccer team paid a visit Friday to the General Motors Wintergarden to celebrate the team's seven year shirt sponsorship with Chevrolet and meet with fans.

Nearly 1,000 fans, many wearing the team's colors, filled meeting area to ask questions of the players and get autographs from their favorite members of Manchester United.

And being in Detroit, they shared the car they drive.

Wayne Rooney said he drives a Camaro, and said "it's nice."

Danny Welbeck drives a Corvette Stingray which he says is nice, but it is "difficult driving a left-handed drive." He did say it was good to come Detroit and meet the Chevrolet employees.

The visit preceded Saturday's sold-out Manchester United game against Real Madrid at Michigan Stadium. More than 100,000 people are expected to the game, which which is more than the 68,000 people who watch Manchester United at the team's home stadium in England.

"It's incredible really," said Rooney. "It's the most fans I've ever played before in front of ... and it's going to be a big night."

Even though the game is an exhibition, members of the team are excited about playing against Real Madrid, the European champions.

"You think you've done it all playing for Manchester United all over the world, this going to be a unique occasion," Welbeck said. "It's Real Madrid - Manchester United, two of the biggest teams in the world playing in one of the biggest stadiums in the world. It is all going to add up to a fantastic match."
