Woman Killed In Crash With Tow Truck On Telegraph Road

LASALLE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- One woman is dead after she apparently ran a stop sign in LeSalle Township and collided with a tow truck on Monday evening.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said the fatal traffic crash occurred around 5 p.m on Telegraph at the Stein Rd. intersection.

Preliminary investigation shows that Brittany Ames, 22, of Tecumseh was driving along westbound Stein Rd. and upon approaching the S. Telegraph Road intersection, failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a tow truck, which was on the northbound side of the road, according to witnesses.

The truck was reportedly being driven by Scott Kopke, 45, of St. Clair Shores. After the collision, both vehicles veered off the northwest side of the intersection and came to rest along the shoulder.

Monroe Community Ambulance and the LaSalle Township Fire Department arrived at the scene, where Ames was pronounced dead from injuries suffered in the crash, while Kopke was not injured in the crash and refused medical treatment.

According to police, both drivers involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and neither speed or alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7768.
