Man Dies After He Was Allegedly Shoved By Teen At Hank Williams, Jr. Concert

PONTIAC (WWJ) — A 55-year-old Westland man has died after officials he was injured in a fight Sunday night at the Hank Williams, Jr. concert at DTE Energy Music Theatre.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said Robert Kobe was pronounced dead at 12:04 p.m. Tuesday, by Dr. Doyle of McLaren Hospital in Pontiac.

Kobe had gone to the concert with a group of neighbor friends -- and in that group was a 15 year-old teenager from Wayne. That teenager allegedly shoved Kobe, who then hit his head on the concrete in the concourse area of the theatre.

"Preliminary information said that kind of a shoving altercation was occurring between the teenager and the victim," Sheriff Mike Bouchard said earlier this week. "Early information is that it actually precipitated by the victim."

"After the shove by the teenager, the adult male went down, struck his head on the concrete and is in very, very difficult straits."

Kobe's son, Corey, told WWJ that his dad loved to horse around and he's sure the incident started off as good-natured fun.

"He was a big goof ball. He wasn't mean, everybody loved him, but he would tease with you and kid around. Given the circumstances of what I've come to learn, there's no reason to believe that there was any kind of foul play involved. Nobody had any intention. It was an accident," he said. "I don't hold any ill will toward the 15-year-old involved. I understand it. At any point in my life, goofing around, I could have been that kid, my father could have been that kid."

The teenager spent Sunday night in jail, then was released on Monday. The Sheriff's Office said an investigation will continue, pending the outcome of an autopsy.
