Help Sought To Find Missing 69-year-Old Milan Man

MILAN (WWJ) - Police in Milan, Michigan, are looking for tips after a 69-year-old man reportedly went out for a walk and never returned home.

Robert William Haddell, Jr., a Milan resident, was last seen shortly before noon on Wednesday, Sept. 3, walking near his residence on Lauff Drive.

Family members report that it is not unusual for the subject to go on long walks — including walking neatly 10 miles to his part-time job in Saline —  but it is unusual for him not to go to work, which he did not do Wednesday afternoon, as scheduled.

They're also worried because he left his work keys and cell phone a home. although he may have his wallet and I.D. on him.

According to family members, Haddell would occasionally hitch hike.

Family members reported him missing on Thursday, and Milan and Michigan State Police have been searching since.

"We've been doing K-9 searches, we've had the Monroe County Sheriff's Department helicopter up in the air last night and back up again today as we speak," Milan Police Chief Jerry Scherlinck told WWJ, Friday afternoon. "So we're trying to get the word out, trying to get the photos out, for anybody who might have seen him or might know about his whereabouts."

There were two possible sightings of a man matching Haddell's description — one Thursday afternoon in the area of Dennison and Hickory Roads, and another Thursday night at the Milan McDonald's — but neither was confirmed, police said.

Area hospitals, ambulance services and hotels have been contacted, with negative results.

Haddel is described as 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, with blue eyes and balding gray hair . He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, blue jeans, black tennis shoes, and possibly a baseball cap.
