Nitro Brings "Gladiator Rock'n Run" Competition Back To Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A competition event comes to Detroit for the second year in a row -- and it's hosted by a former American Gladiator.

Dan 'Nitro' Clark is bringing his Gladiator Rock'n Run back to the Detroit area this Saturday. It's a 5k run with all kinds of obstacles such as mud and even fire reports WWJ's Zahra Huber.

Nitro describes it as a Disneyland for adults. "You get to come out and challenge yourself to run a 5k course."

He says his favorite competitor is a 75-year-old woman named Bev, who competes in most of the events around the country with her kids.

"I know the first thing people think is 'Wow, Gladiator, can I do this?' Well, if Bev at 75 can do it, everybody at home can certainly do it."

He says the morning round is a bit more competitive, while the rest of the day is open to everyone.

So why should people register?

"It's a chance to compete," said Nitro, "each person still has that internal desire for adventure, an internal desire to conquer, to go out and challenge themselves. So, what Gladiator Rock'n Run does - it provides a place to go out and do that."

He said he said at first he was concerned about coming to Detroit due to the economic issues clouding the city ... "but we quickly saw that this was such a live and growing and vibrant community ... that's why we decided to come back a second year. A lot of gladiators out there."

The event takes place at Stoney Creek Metro Park Saturday.
