It's Tailgating Time! Eastern Market Is Ready For Detroit Lions Home Opener

DETROIT (WWJ) - Tailgating season is finally here!

Eastern Market is ready to cheer on the Lions as they take on the New York Giants in their first Monday night season opener since 1971.

Thousands of fans are expected to enjoy all the tailgating that Eastern Market has to offer.

"Food and camaraderie are a huge part of one of America's favorite pastimes," La'Leatha Spillers, director of marketing and communications with Eastern Market, said in a statement. "For the last eight years, Eastern Market has been happy to share in the experience with Lions fans."

Eastern Market, located at 2934 Russell Street, is the largest tailgating location closest to Ford Field.

A round-trip shuttle to Ford Field is available one hour before and after the game for $5.

Future tailgating dates at Eastern Market include all Detroit Lions home games:

  • September 21st
  • October 5th
  • October 19th
  • November 9th
  • November 27th (Thanksgiving)
  • December 7th
  • December 14th

The Tigers will host the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park; and the Lions will host the New York Giants at Ford Field.

The Detroit Tigers sent out a traffic advisory Friday, warning fans to plan ahead to expect "significantly higher than normal" traffic  in the Foxtown area on Monday — and announcing some parking regulations special to that day.

Tiger Garage and lots 1, 2, 3, A, C, D, E, G, J, L, S, T and W will be held until 4:30 p.m. for guests attending the 4:08 p.m. Tigers game. Guests must show a ticket, parking pass or have proof of tickets at Will Call to the Tigers game in order to park in these lots.

Other Olympia-held lots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. [See a parking map HERE].

Patrons attending both the Tigers and Lions game will need to purchase a parking pass for each event. Tigers fans with season or daily parking passes to the Tiger Garage or any of the Olympia-held lots will need to vacate their parking spots after the completion of the Tigers game unless they have paid for a separate Lions game parking pass.

Tailgating will be prohibited in all lots to maximize available parking.
