Local Filmmaker Captures the Energy and Spirit of This Year's 'Dally In The Alley'

Last year, a young filmmaker decided he wanted to capture the positive energy and overall sense of community that Dally in the Alley brings every year...and so he did.

Daniel Berhane, a film student at Wayne State University, documented everything Dally in the Alley offers – from the people to the music to the food and the vendors. His 2013 video went viral in a matter of days, being shared all over Facebook and Twitter.

Dally in the Alley is the annual single-day festival celebrating Detroit's arts and cultural diversity. The festival literally is set in the alleys of Cass Corridor.

This past weekend, Dally celebrated its 37th year...and Daniel was out there once again to film it!

"I'm a film major, and I just thought it would be fun to film something cool going on in Detroit," said Daniel, on why he decided to make the video. He said he's definitely going to keep up the tradition, going on to say, "I want to do it even bigger next year, have more people filming – maybe even a drone to capture it from above."

Daniel filmed and edited the entire video himself, and his goal was just to showcase how much fun the Dally was. "My favorite part might have been the dogs, I love dogs," said Daniel on the festival. "Everyone is there for a good time, there's a lot of positive energy and happy people." He said that there were people with "Free Hug" signs, which you can see in the video.

We can't wait to see what he has in store for next year's Dally in the Alley.
