Pre-orders Of iPhone 6 Reportedly Hit Record Numbers

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - The first day of pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 6 is reportedly reaching record levels.

The company released a statement to CNET that there was a "record number of pre-orders overnight," which caused Apple's online store and others to suffer outages and delays.

CNET reported that the Apple Store was down for more than two hours early Friday when the iPhone first became available. The site was operational Friday afternoon, with an anticipated delivery time of 3-4 weeks for the iPhone 6 Plus, and one week for the iPhone 6.

The report stated that there was no issue with Verizon Wireless and AT&T pre-orders, while Sprint and T-Mobile also experienced downtime early Friday.

Various carriers reported that the new smart phones will ship between September and November. CNET is reporting that the iPhone 6 Plus would ship between Nov. 2 and 27, and the iPhone 6 would ship in three to five weeks. Sprint may have a delay of 64 GB and 128 GB iPhone 6 Plus will take up to three weeks.

Verizon expects to deliver the iPhone 6 between Sept. 19 and Oct. 7.

If the trend continues, this could be one of the biggest launches for Apple. The company reportedly ordered up to 80 million of the larger screen iPhones by the end of the year. this would be nearly 40 percent more than the iPhone 5s and 5c.
