The new smart phones were released in 10 countries – including the United States – on Sept. 19. Both models of the smart phone will be available in an additional 20 countries on Friday.
“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said in a release. “We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”READ MORE: 'My Name Is Sara' Film On Holocaust Survivor Premieres In Metro Detroit
Both iPhone 6 models are larger than previous iPhones, with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays, and are thinner than older devices and features advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras; and Apple Pay.
According to Reuters, sales of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus beat sales of last year’s news models in their first three days.
The popularity of the new iPhones has led to limited quantities of iPhone 6 in stores Monday in the metro Detroit area, and there were no iPhone 6 Plus devices available. The phones were available to ship in three to four weeks.MORE NEWS: Dearborn Homecoming Festival Kicks Off This Weekend
