'Okay To Say' Allows Children To Report Illegal Activity Without Fear
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Law enforcement officials are focusing their attention to an updated "threat reporting" method to prevent violence at schools across the state.
The system, called "Okay-to-Say," allows kids to anonymously report information about weapons, bullying and other problems.
This is Detroit Police Chief James Craig explained that a growing number of citizens -- including younger people -- have been wanting to speak up and help police identify criminals.
"Contrary to all the talk about this 'no snitch' culture, our young people just like out adult community, they want to work with the police," Craig said.
The program is based on a similar "Safe 2 Tell" program developed in Colorado following a deadly shooting at Columbine High School.
