Man Ejected From Motorcycle After Colliding With Semi While Merging Onto Freeway

SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- An accident in Monroe County saw one man fly off his motorcycle and onto the side of the freeway on Monday night.

Jordan Sampson, 24, of Dundee was entering southbound US-23 from Ida West Rd. on a Kawasaki motorcycle at around 5:30 p.m. when his motorcycle collided with the passenger side of a Volvo semi tractor which was traveling southbound on US-23 in the right lane.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone, Sampson was ejected from the motorcycle after the initial collision and came to rest in the right lane, while the motorcycle slid along the left shoulder of the roadway.

The semi tractor was being driven by Viorel Marcu, 51, of Detroit, who was able to bring the semi tractor to a controlled stop along the right shoulder. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles when the crash occurred.

Sampson was transported to Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio where he is listed in stable condition, while Marcu was not injured in the crash. Sampson was wearing a helmet and Marcu was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7715.
