Bob Bashara Trial Begins With Jury Selection Tuesday

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's been more than two years since the body of Grosse Pointe Park marketing executive Jane Bashara was found in her car in Detroit. Since then, the story has taken several bizarre turns.

WWJ's Marie Osborne reports on the start of Bob Bashara's trial, scheduled for Tuesday, as a jury is selected for the trial.

The dilemma for both sides will include finding peers that have not heard about this sensationalized murder case and/or have not formed an opinion on the case.

Once seated, the jury will have to consider the testimony of eighty-five prosecution witnesses, hundreds of pieces of evidence and the salacious details of a S&M lifestyle that Bob Bashara was involved in.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Vonda Evans had floated the idea of some type of resolution during a hearing earlier this month, asking Bashara to consider his circumstances — but all that was put to rest at a hearing Wednesday. Prosecutors told Evans a plea deal was not offered to Bashara.

Jurors are expected to be seated for a least a month in the trial.
