Google Unveils New Nexus Products Prior To Apple Event

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Google unveiled three new products Wednesday, which include a smart phone, table and streaming video player.

The trio of products will be released in the coming weeks, and were announced just hours before Apple holds a media event of its own Thursday where it is expected to release updated iPads.

The new Nexus 6 smart phone, which Google developed with Motorola, features a contoured aluminum frame, a 6-inch Quad HD display and a 13 megapixel camera, according to the company. It also has dual front-facing stereo speakers and a Turbo Charger, for up to six hours of use with only 15 minutes of charge.

Google partnered with HTC for the Nexus 9, an 8.9-inch tablet with brushed metal sides. To assist users who work on tablets, Google developed a keyboard folio that magnetically attaches to the Nexus 9.

The third product Google announced was the Nexus Player, an Android TV streaming media player for movies, music and videos. It will also be Google Cast Ready.

Both the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player will be available for pre-order on October 17 and in stores starting November 3, according to Google. Nexus 6 will be available for pre-order in late October and in stores in November.
