By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - The next generation of Apple's iPad is now available in retail outlets.

The iPad 2 Air, which is thinner than previous models and offers features including an enhanced camera, is available at Apple stores and Best Buy stores in Metro Detroit, according to a website searches

The new iPad, which was unveiled Oct. 16,  weighs less than a pound, is more than half as thin as the original iPad, and comes in three colors: gold, silver and space gray.

"iPad is a magical piece of glass that runs more than 675,000 apps specifically designed for it, and is thin and light enough that you can comfortably hold it all day; the new iPad Air 2 is packed with amazing new innovations, weighs less than a pound, and at just 6.1 mm is the thinnest tablet in the world," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a release.

The new iPad 2 Air and iPad mini 3, both offer Apple Pay users to purchase items in apps, with the Touch ID which allows users to unlock their device with a touch of a finger and use the Apple Pay service.

In addition to the iPad 2 Air, the iPad Mini 3 is also available at Metro Detroit Apple stores and select Best Buy stores.

Mobile carriers such as Verizon and AT&T carry the new devices, but currently are not available in stores. They are also offering specials, including AT&T is offering its Mobile Share Value which offer new and existing Mobile Share Value customers to get double the data for the same price until October 31, 2014. Customers can choose a promotional 30GB to 100GB plan for the price of 15GB to 50GB.

One iPad 2 Air owner already took to YouTube to show off that he allegedly could bend the tablet. This follows the viral videos posted online by owners of the iPhone 6 who claimed the device bent in their pockets.

In the iPad video, the owner bent his new iPad 2 Air until the screen cracked and it was bent into an angle. The device allegedly still worked.
