Bill Laimbeer On Pistons Coaching Job: 'With Dumars There It Was Just Not Going To Happen'

Former Piston Bill Laimbeer appreciates the grass roots support for him to become Pistons coach. But he knew he had no chance of becoming Pistons coach as long as Joe Dumars remained at team President.

It is a common refrain from former Bad Boys players. They believed that Dumars wanted to be the king of the Palace and he did not want any of his teammates involved. They were correct because Dumars never hired one of his former teammates. Instead Laimbeer coached the Detroit Shock and the New York Liberty of the WNBA and served as an assistant coach in the NBA.

But Laimbeer said at age 57 he believes the window of opportunity for him to become a head coach has come and gone.

He has left the Detroit area and is living in Florida where he relaxes and hunts.
